Message From Our CEO It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Shionogi USA’s website. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. At Shionogi USA, we are in the unique position of having the financial backing of a well-established, leading Japanese pharmaceutical company, matched with the entrepreneurial spirit of a start-up company. We have grown significantly since our inception in February 2001, expanding our team and resources as our portfolio of compounds grows and proceeds through the clinical development process. In addition to supporting the clinical development of compounds in Shionogi’s US/EU joint venture with GlaxoSmithKline, our portfolio now includes several independent development programs. These include S-2367, a NPY Y5 receptor antagonist for obesity, and S-777469, an oral treatment for atopic dermatitis. We expect our clinical development activities to expand further, with additional innovative compounds discovered by scientists at Shionogi Research Laboratories in Japan brought to the US. In July of 2004, Shionogi USA, Inc. reached a critical milestone by obtaining the exclusive rights to market and distribute CEDAX® (ceftibuten) in the United States. CEDAX®, a 3rd generation cephalosporin antibiotic, is Shionogi USA, Inc.’s first commercialized product, and provides an excellent opportunity for us to build the infrastructure and expertise to necessary to support pharmaceutical sales in the US, as well as generate near-term sales and profits. The core group of clinicians, project managers and commercial personnel that we have assembled in Shionogi USA, Inc. will be the key to our future success -- they are a highly skilled, motivated group of individuals with extensive experience in the U.S. pharmaceutical industry. As our development programs progress through clinical milestones and the size of our marketed portfolio grows, we will aggressively seek to attract and retain additional staff that will play a critical role in achieving our objective of building a significant pharmaceutical presence in the US.
